Lead Graphic Designer / Design Director, New York

Lead Graphic Designer / Design Director at That’s Nice
New York, NY Posted 11/2/11

Background / Responsibilities:
Marketing agency of 20+ people based in New York City, specializing in integrated corporate branding, seeks a fulltime Lead Graphic Designer / Design Director with 10+ years post-college fulltime experience at a design firm, studio or marketing firm (corporate in-house and ad agency designers should not apply).

The successful candidate must be highly proficient in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator (using Adobe CS4 suite), and at doing their own production — it is essential that you can execute projects from concept to delivery, and have experience working on new creative concept work. This is a “hands-on” design position with a focus on new creative.

That’s Nice works for clients in materials science and life science industries, including specialty manufacturing, biologics and pharmaceutical markets. Experience in these sectors would therefore be an advantage. However, any background involving high-volume information graphics would also be well-suited to our work. We are not looking for editorial, in-house or packaging designers.

Requirements:
This position requires a highly creative person who can work through and manage integrated projects from concept to production. Candidates must be able to work independently, handling many projects at one time, and also integrate in a team environment — collaborating with other Design Directors and mentoring/assisting designers at lower levels. Above all, excellent typography skills and experience building files to finished production standards using all CS4 programs are a must. We do not have a production department and all released files must be print ready. Experience art directing support staff – including illustrators, photographers, retouchers, animators and others – is necessary.

Excellent leadership skills, communication, keen attention to detail and a problem-solving approach are necessary in this role.

A traditional background in print design with experience working in many different media would be an advantage – client projects are fully integrated and vary from print and web flats to environmental / exhibit design to motion graphics. We rarely work on one-off projects. Web and motion graphic projects do not require programming skills – flat designs only (programmers, animators and motion-graphic designers need not apply).
