Background:
Large circulation upscale men’s magazine has an immediate opening for a full time Deputy Art Director to join the design team in our New York City office.

Unlike other publications, our magazine design department is set up similarly to a design studio environment. We are looking for a team player with an edge. You might be someone working in a studio now, looking for change, or you could be working at a magazine and feel it is too restrictive to your creative process. Innovation and excellence is our goal. We have a passion for photography, design and journalism and have ambition to influence editorial trends. If this sounds interesting, let’s talk.

Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Creative Director on all feature design, from concept to final production
- Art direct photography and illustration
- Develop and implement information graphics
- Work with the Creative Director, Art Director and editorial team on a complete publication redesign
- Work with the CD to maintain look for the Men’s Health tablet edition

Requirements:
- Have a sophisticated and modern design sensibility
- Able to create a consistent brand identity through large package features
- Extremely organized, meticulous and detail oriented
- Equipped with a solid understanding of typographic grid structures
- Proficient understanding information graphics and able to understand data sets
- Able to multitask
- Work under tight deadlines (including occasional late nights)
- Be pro-active and enthusiastic
- Possess a strong foundation in CS5
- Experience with digital magazines and/or web design
- Should excel at working both independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
- Passionate about all areas of design
