San Francisco: Countless Layers of Paint

Event Date: 13 - 30,

Leah Rosenberg likes to take her time. Her paintings are comprised of countless layers of paint. These layers serve as markers of time, similar to the rings on a tree stump, revealing the paints’ inherent materiality as it begins to take on its own shape. Rosenberg recognizes time as the continuous motion that it is, noting “…each work is the result of a ritualized routine that raises a question, which in turn leads to the next work.” Each layer of color is inspired by her daily life- be it text from a book, lyrics from a song, reflections from calls home or clothing worn by people she comes into contact with throughout the day. As these experiences build, so does her work, and in her ongoing show “Time Will Tell,” she invites viewers to reflect on the passage and structure of time. For more info, click here.
