New York: Lines of Inference

Event Date: 21 - 2, 2011

At first glance, Lisa Nankivil’s paintings look like an ode to lines. Upon closer inspection, there’s a lush texture and rich use of color that makes these works dually simple and decadent. Her brushwork is fascinating thanks to the use of blades, rubber squeegees, T-squares, cardboard and wood pieces pressed and scraped into her paintings.

At the same time, Nankivil’s paintings seem to explore a spiritual realm, eliciting feelings, associations, and meanings that allude to a concrete, visible reality. These paintings are best seen up close where you can see the rich detail and meditate on the lush play of colors and layers. Click here for more details.
