PATTERN PULP

Malmö: Winter in the Cowshed

Event Date: 12 - 15, 2011 - 2012

New Zealand based artist, Richard Pearse creates amazing works from salvaged wood. With fragments of old timber, driftwood and other found wood, Pearse creates his collages piece by piece, resulting in an assemblage of geometric patterns, grids and color-coding. The works are primarily abstract, yet also present stories about times and places that might have easily been otherwise forgotten, shown through the “eyes” of the recycled material with which they have been created.

Working organically, Pearse lets music play heavily in his process:

“My art is really heavily influenced by the music I’m inspired by and attempting to create. I think about music in terms of loud and quiet colors, textures and patterns, and to me a lot of these pieces are interpretations of songs or parts of songs. Songs are made up of a series of interlocking pieces that work well together and this is what I try to create with my art.” Quite via My Love for You.
