PATTERN PULP

2D Meets 3D Education

Event Date: 21 - 23, 2011

Kathryn VanDyke’s latest work reveals a strong influence of grids and geometry while also exposing a deep sensitivity to nature, popular culture, current events and technology. VanDyke explores two-dimensional space and the interplay between illusion, flatness and the juxtaposition of natural and man-made light forms.

Her paintings are created with oil and spray paints and present equivocal, geometric shapes stacked in inventive, interlocking balancing acts ranging from architectural to atmospheric.

Bringing this stacked geometric phenomena to life, furniture maker Andrew Raible along with his wife Jami Saunders recently launched a project paring furniture design with children’s educational funding. Entitled, Kids of Kathmandu, the pair have successfully converged architects and designers from firms ranging from MADE, Uhuru and Daniel Moyer, to design, fundraise and aid children in Napal. The results are stunning and ambitious.
