Los Angeles: Art in the Streets

Event Date: 19 - 8, 2011

We’ve always been interested in the burgeoning world of street art and it’s indoor vs. outdoor relationship. The Museum of Contemporary Art presents, Art in the Streets, the first major U.S. museum exhibition on the history of graffiti and street art.

Tracing the development of street art from the 70’s onward, through key cities around the world where unique visual languages have developed, the show will present photographs and films that have documented graffiti and street art culture over the years.

Additionally, installations will be shown from various artists in the graffiti and street art community. MOCA’s exhibition will also emphasize LA’s role in the evolution of this creative medium, with special sections dedicated to cholo graffiti and Dogtown skateboard culture and works from influential local artists.

The exhibition will open with a skate ramp designed by pro-skater Lance Mountain and artist Geoff McFetridge. Skate demonstrations by the Nike SB skate team will be held onsite for the duration of the exhibition. Surely, a not-to-miss show! For more info, click here. Fore more pics, click here.
